In 2016, Carnival Corporation made history as the first company to sail from the U.S. to Cuba in over 40 years. Making history brings challenges, and Carnival Corporation and LDWW were in lockstep to manage the strategic communications campaign supporting the inaugural voyage, including proactive media, crisis communications and the first-on-the-ground PR campaign for a U.S. firm. Overcoming a sea of challenges, Carnival Corporation not only made travel and communications history, but managed to be the first-ever U.S. company known to have changed a Cuban government policy. The world stopped to talk about Carnival Corp. in Cuba and the voyage became the single biggest corporate story in the company’s nearly 50-year history.
